I Want to Shave My Legs, Not Make Meth

It started out like an ordinary shopping trip. I decided to stop at the local Walgreen’s to pick up a few things before heading home for the day. I walked down the store aisles with list in hand, tossing items into a basket until I got to this one:

Razor blades.

I stood in the aisle, puzzled for a few moments while I searched for the blades I wanted to purchase. I was getting annoyed and impatient as I scanned the aisle until my eyes fell upon a display case of razors and replacement blades.

It was locked up. As in, with a key. As in, I needed to find a store clerk to open this display if I wanted my damn razor blades.

I briefly thought about going to another store, but curiosity got the better of me. I had to know why some . . . not all . . . of the women’s razors and blades were locked up. I noticed none of the men’s razors or blades were locked in a case.

After several minutes of walking around the store and briefly contemplating just picking the lock on the annoying display case, I finally found a sales clerk. As we walked over to the display, I asked why it was locked. “Oh, it’s policy,” she said as she whipped out a key ring with enough keys for everyone in the neighborhood to get at least two.

“What do you mean, it’s policy?” I asked. “Are people actually stealing razors and blades? Why aren’t the men’s razors locked up as well?”

Sighing heavily, she handed me the package I wanted and said, “And you have to pay for these in cosmetics” before walking away and leaving me with my package and unanswered questions.

If this is Walgreen’s “policy,” then they’ve lost me as a customer. I don’t appreciate the inconvenience and hassle when I just want a package of razor blades. After all, I just want to shave my legs . . . not make meth.

I feel your pain... I was just at walgreen's and they had the oral-b tooth brush attachments behind the counter in the camera/photo department... stupid!

Some, not all? That's very strange. Maybe the locked-up brands are the most shoplifted?

They do that at the Kmart here. Just some of the razor blades. These are mens. I always thought they locked up the expensive ones so they don't get stolen, but I am just assuming. I buy my razor blades somewhere else because I don't like the hassle of hunting down an employee.
